Families & Carers

“Thank you all so much for the care and compassion shown to my beautiful sister and for accommodating a lot of the family during her final days. It meant a lot for us to be with her; we have always been a close knit family.” - family letter, 2010

“Your care and loving service toward him and our family was beyond belief, from the cleaners, the tea-ladies, all nursing staff, doctors and chaplains - whether trained or volunteers.” - family letter, 2010

A key element of our philosophy at St Helena is to work with patients in the context of their family, friends and carers. This may take the form of supporting parents in preparing children for a family bereavement or working with a member of a family after the death of a loved one. It can take a variety of forms, from counselling to support for carers though a carers group, to advice on benefits.

The St Helena team includes counsellors, social workers, art and music therapists who specialise in this work.

Counselling, music and art therapy offer different ways to engage in, express and explore the feelings and thoughts raised by an individual’s experience.
