Families & Carers

A key element of our philosophy at St Helena is to work with patients in the context of their family, friends and carers. This may take the form of supporting parents in preparing children for a family bereavement or working with a member of a family after the death of a loved one. It can take a variety of forms, from counselling to support for carers though a carers group, to advice on benefits. The photograph here shows a cookery group run by a counsellor and our senior cook for bereaved relatives who previously had not had the responsibility of cooking.

The St Helena team includes counsellors, social workers, art and music therapists who specialise in this work.

Counselling, music and art therapy offer different ways to engage in, express and explore the feelings and thoughts raised by an individual’s experience.
