Top Tips for Fundraising

  • Be enthusiastic…you will be amazed at how quickly it rubs off on people around you!
  • Do not be afraid to try something new: be as creative and innovative as you want 
  • Ask – You will never know unless you do! Most people are happy to sponsor/support someone they know, so do not be embarrassed to ask people for support – If you do not ask, you do not get 
  • Ask your suppliers to provide sponsorship and/or make a donation 
  • Ask companies to donate prizes, give you use of their venue, provide people to help at the event 
  • Watch that your costs don’t creep up – It can happen so easily… remember to watch every penny and keep focused on raising money not spending it! 
  • Try and do everything on a sale or return and with ticket sales in advance, this ensures the event has the least risk as possible 
  • Talk about your event at every opportunity – This will get people involved and spreading the word for you 
  • Use collection tins and buckets at your event to maximise donations on the day 
  • Promotion – Get your event publicised – Website, local press, posters, invitations etc – Contact the Hospice Fundraising Team for their support 
  • Always run your promotional material past one of the team at the Fundraising Office to make sure the Charity Number and all legal requirements connected with raising money have been included correctly 

Always thank everyone involved in organising an event, people will then leave the experience on a positive note and will be more likely to get involved again.
