Connections and conversations

Are you interested in getting out into your local community and promoting the work of St Helena Hospice? We have a team of passionate volunteers helping to spread the word! There are two flexible and varied volunteer roles; Ambassadors and Community Supporters.

Volunteer Ambassadors

Our volunteer Ambassadors are passionate, enthusiastic and confident communicators who represent the hospice by raising awareness of our work and fundraising activities. The role can involve anything from sharing news with family and friends via social networks to collecting cheques, speaking to community groups or representing the hospice at local events.

Ambassadors are a network of volunteers who represent St Helena Hospice, spreading the word about our work in the community and raising awareness of our fundraising activities. This is a fun and varied role for those who enjoy public speaking and meeting new and different people. As a representative of St Helena Hospice, we would like you to be a passionate supporter and an enthusiastic and confident communicator.

We are looking for Ambassadors in all communities across north east Essex.

Ways to get involved:

  • inspiring your family, friends, colleagues and online networks to support us
  • giving short talks about St Helena Hospice including services we provide in the local community, activities and fundraising initiatives and passing back any information requests from contacts and audiences
  • collecting cheques and making thank-you presentations to those who have supported St Helena Hospice
  • representing St Helena Hospice at local events through running stalls/other activities or being a guest of honour
  • liaise with the Fundraising team to ensure appropriate thank you letters, receipts and certificates are issued where necessary
  • getting people involved in our fundraising appeals and campaigns like Open Gardens or Sponsor a Nurse
  • promoting your contacts to take part in events like our Midnight Walk or Bubble Rush
  • where possible, to source new opportunities to engage with new groups and clubs in the local community

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • are looking for a flexible volunteering role

  • enjoy public speaking (or would like to gain experience in presentation skills)
  • have good influencing and persuading skills to encourage people to get involved
  • enjoy fundraising and would like to connect with like-minded people

We offer:

  • the opportunity to develop new and existing skills and boost self-confidence
  • training, resources and ongoing support from our Fundraising Ambassador Co-ordinator and Fundraising team
  • support from our Community Supporters who will help to identify new opportunities for you to promote St Helena Hospice and to develop further access to our Ambassador and Community Supporters Facebook group where you can share stories, ideas and experiences
  • regular meetings with updates about St Helena Hospice and the difference you are making
  • Volunteer Skills Pathway awards
