Doreen’s bag bonanza charity gift

10 February 2010

A handbag costing £5 turned out to be a real bargain when 400 chinese yuan was discovered hidden in its inside pocket.

Doreen Brown, of Abbey Crescent, Thorpe, found the cash, worth about £32, rolled up inside the pocket of the black handbag she bought at a Tesco store.

The 82 year old first thought it was a roll of £50 notes, and she is baffled as to how it ended up in the UK.

She said,

“I got the bag home and took all the tissue paper out nd saw there was this inside the pocket. It was all rolled up in a bundle. It’s a mystery how it got there. It’s quite exciting really. I thought it might be somebody’s wages put there for safekeeping.”

Mrs Brown bought the handbag at a Tesco store in Hertfordshire, while visiting her daughter Susan who lives in Potters Bar.

She has decided to donate the money to St Helena Hospice.
