A group of dancers have urged women to get on board for the St Helena Hospice Midnight Walk.
The 12Km walk, on Saturday June 5, will raise vital funds for the hospice in High Woods, Colchester.
About 15 members of staff and pupils at the Colne Bank School of Dancing in Wivenhoe, have already signed up.
For a number of years the school has donated some of the profits of its annual shows to the hospice where pupils’ family members have been looked after.
Jenny Overton, who teaches at the school, said some of the girls had done the walk last year.
She said: “They enjoyed it so much and had such a laugh, they said we really all had to do it as a group this year.
“There’s about 15 of us doing it and we are really looking forward to it.
“I think doing it as a group will be brilliant, because we can urge each other on if we start to flag halfway round.”
Gemma Philips and Clare Williams walked last year in memory of loved ones who had been looked after at the hospice.
Clare, 28, said anyone doing it for the first time this year would be hooked for life. She said: “I found it really emotional when every one turned on their flashing bunny ears and walked off into the night. It was just amazing.
Her dad, Neil Waldock, was looked after at the hospice in the final stages of his battle against cancer. She said: “My brother and I were quite young, I was only 21.
“We were both very angry and probably a bit difficult, but they took it in their stride and were so lovely.
“He only spent a couple of days there, but the charity’s care for us did not stop there, they supported us afterwards as well.”
Clare said it is hugely important to support the hospice and its work. Between 1,700 and 1,800 women have already signed up for the event, which sets off on a circular route at midnight from the Western Homes Community Stadium.
There are 2,500 places available and registration closes on May 14.
