Student’ prom night for Hospice
05 May 2010
A charity “prom night” will give partygoers a chance to reminisce about their school days.
Students from Colchester Institute will stage the event at the Holiday Inn in Eight Ash green, on Thursday, May 6th, to raise money for a new bus for St. Helena Hospice, in High Woods, Colchester.
The event organised by students from the centre for Hospitality and Food Studies, at the Sheepen Road College.
They had to submit a variety of themes for the night to a panel of judges, which included representatives from St Helena Hospice and the Holiday Inn.
The prom night theme will include a buffet and a competition to find a prom king and queen.
Louise Gill, curriculum manager at the Institute, said: “The students have worked phenomenally hard and the ideas they’ve come up with have been great.
“I know they can raise enough money to help the charity.”
The Hospice needs to raise £20,000 to replace its current minibus and already has £5000.
Kate Alden, events and community fundraiser at the charity, said: “I am really pleased to be working with another group of students from Colchester Institute.
“The prom night will be a great opportunity for the guests to dress up and have an enjoyable evening with friends and, at the same time, raise money for the hospice.”
Tickets, costing £20, can be bought from reception at the Centre for Hospitality and Food Studies at Colchester Institute or on 01206 721452
