Can Eddie the eagle fly around marathon course?

20 May 2010

Colchester United’s mascot, Eddie the Eagle, is taking a break from cheering the U’s towards promotion to take on an even bigger challenge – the London Marathon.

Fresh from his defeat in the mascot race at last month’s big Essex derby match against Southend, Eddie is now in training to run 26 miles in the capital, in aid of St Helena Hospice. He’s running with dozen others and hopes to raise at least £1,500 for St Helena, with the help of club physio Tony Flynn. Running with Eddie will be St Helena entrants Damian Saiz, Lee Hyde, Andy Hughes, Steven Long, Tara Humphrey, Roy Corneloues, Charlene Corneloues, Louise Cassidy, Wendy Ramsay, Ruth Wells, Don Goldsworthy-Ellson and Kevin Davies. They have been meeting fortnightly to train and share tips ahead of the run, on April 25. Hospice events fundraiser Kate Alden said “ Colchester United are fantastic supporters of St Helena Hospice and this is another example of us working together.”
