Rotary chief in town
20 May 2010
The President of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland met with the Mayor of Colchester as part of a national tour.
David Fowler paid his visit last week as he sought to witness first-hand the wealth of volunteering and fundraising work being carried out by Rotary members in the local community.
In Colchester, Mr Fowler’s visit included the St Helena Hospice, where one of the rooms has been equipped in memory of the late wife of district secretary Rob Alderton.
The Rotary Club of Colchester Centurion raised £16,000 to furnish the room with younger people in mind and provided a flatscreen television, a Sony PlayStation and MP3 music system.
Following a visit to the Colchester Roman Circus site, RIBI President David Fowler and his wife Daphne paid a courtesy call on the town’s Mayor and Mayoress, Henry and Vivien Spyvee, then moved on to the Garrison Officers’ Club.
There they joined the Rotary Club of Colchester and other local Rotarians for a lunch.
