A fundraising duo held a charity disco night at Stanway Rovers Football Club at the end of last year and raised an incredible £724.81 for St Helena Hospice. The money was raised through raffle ticket and door ticket sales and general donations made on the night.

Joanne Rix, Business Manager at New Horizons and Sue Leggett, Hospice at Home Nurse have been friends for many years. They were talking one day about Sue’s work at the Hospice and Joanne was so impressed with what the Hospice at Home service does for the community that she suggested to Sue that they put together a fundraising event to raise money to support the ongoing work.

The night they put together was packed full of entertainment and included a wonderful Drag Artist, Tony Sinclair, who kept people entertained and warmed up ready for the comedian and later the Starlight Disco that saw people dancing away the night.

Joanne said “It was great fun and we were so delighted to be able to raise the money for such an important local charity who do such an amazing job for people living in our community. We would like to thank everyone for coming and Nestor Prime Care Services for donating the £50 shopping vouchers as the door prize.”

Sue said “We had a lot of fun planning the event and were so pleased at how well it went on the night and that everyone had such a good time. We have been inundated with requests to hold the night again so are delighted to announce that tickets for the 2010 event are now on sale.”

St Helena Hospice provide Hospice at Home within the Colchester and Tendring area and the service is funded by NHS North East Essex. Frances Rowe, Head of End of Life Care, NHS North East Essex, said:
“Hospice at Home can support a patient up to 24 hours a day at the end of life by providing care in the home, enabling people to have more choice over where they die. The team is there to provide practical and emotional support and works closely with GPs, district nurses and St Helena Hospice Nurse Specialists that work out and about in the community. The service is very flexible and can respond quickly to individual patient’s needs.

“We are very grateful for all the fundraising efforts of Joanne and Sue and the money raised will be used to fund work bags for the staff and books required for education and training.”
