Make a Will your priority

Make a Will your priority

The start of June sees the return of our hugely successful Wills Month campaign. The scheme, now in its fifth year, will run from the 1st -30th June and is an opportunity for those looking to make or amend their Will to do so without incurring the usual solicitor’s fees and instead making a donation to the hospice.

Making a Will is essential to ensure your final wishes are known, but many people feel that it can simply be put off until tomorrow. Unfortunately you can never predict what is around the corner, so St Helena Hospice has joined forces with a number of local solicitors from across north east Essex who have  generously donated Will drafting appointments this June.

Sue D’Anna, whose husband died in the hospice in 2015, wrote her will during Wills Month 2016 and said “I made a Will last year after my husband died. He didn’t have a Will, and quickly realising the importance of Wills I arranged to have one made. During the appointment I took the opportunity to leave something to the hospice; I felt that this was one way I could say thank you for what they did for us. It was so simple, and writing it during Wills Month meant I was giving even more to the charity.”

The process is really simple; choose a solicitor from the list of partner firms on the hospice website and call them to make an appointment. The solicitor will then make your Will, waiving their normal fee and will instead ask for a suggested donation of either £90 for a single basic Will, or £150 for a basic mirror or double Will - every penny of which goes to the hospice.

Mark Jarman-Howe, Chief Executive commented “Every year, the hospice cares for thousands of local people living with an incurable illness, as well as providing support for their families.

“We rely on the generosity of the local community to do this and Wills Month is a great way of doing your bit both for the hospice and also for your peace of mind. I’d like to thank all of the participating solicitors for their support and generosity during Wills Month, and for everyone who has taken part in Wills Month in previous years.”

The hospice is incredibly lucky to have the support of the legal community in north east Essex, and those supporting Wills Month 2017 are Alistair Keeble, Birkett Long, Fisher Jones Greenwood, Goody Burrett, John Fowlers LLP, Powis & Co. and Sparlings.
